Joey Salceda deserts Lakas

Lakas-Kampi-CMD right now is a sputtering vehicle that's about to experience some breakdown. As soon as Administrative bet, Sec. Gilbert Teodoro, resigned his post as Chairman of the ruling party, the pieces started to fall and if the trend continues we'll definitely see a huge chunk of the party fall sometime soon. Not even Pres. Arroyo's order could stop party stalwarts from resigning their posts and Gov. Salceda is a huge piece supporting the weight of the party. Do we hear someone calling, "Timber!"?

Attending a Networking Night

I came expecting to learn from the experts but the whole event turned out to be a marketing event for Summit Publishing's Entrepreneur Magazine. Malou and I went there to learn from the speakers about  their experiences and how it could help the audience put up their own business.

I don't know if it was just me but aside from the tasty food catered by Threesixty Bar and Restaurant at A Venue in Makati City and the host, the whole thing did not meet my expectations. The place was cramped, the registration was frustrating - they dropped my name and Malou's from the list after registering ahead of the rest - and the presentations were (with much due respect to the presenters) long and 75% pointless. The speakers were obviously not oriented right (or was the event itself confused?) and aside from Anton De Leon of ourawesomeplanet.com, the other two speakers (and I applaud their achievements) did do nothing much to provide practical steps in putting up a food business and/or how the industry is doing. I expected more from Entrepreneur Philippines because, like the magazine, it provides practical information for aspiring entrepreneurs. This one flopped big time. They're event organizing is part of their tool to create relevance with the magazine as they celebrate their 10th Year Anniversary so I do expected more from the event as far as content of the Networking Night is concerned.

Malou and I left without knowing how we can put up our food business throughout the whole thing. I mean, what is networking night anyway? It was my first time to attend and I wished they explained what these events are all about. I felt I was taken for granted and their ad - I felt I was taken for a ride. Good thing I enjoy reading the magazine otherwise it would've been "bye-bye."

The management should not be content in just running one of the most successful magazines in the world right now and they should follow that up with a solid event presentation that will make more Entrepreneurs feel like a winner.

They probably forgot that businessmen are busy people and if they continue organizing events like this, this way then I think people will not come. Oh yeah, thanks to Facebook, the event was well attended and the management didn't foresee that. Ergo, it was a cramped place. Poor planning.

Anyway, I look forward to a much improved Networking Nights like this from Summit Publishing.

McDonald's and the church

Here's what I learned about McDonald's and its perfect fries.

Did you know that the church we always know that existed is not the building itself? I learned that the church is the body of people that comprises the church. It is me, my wife, my kid, and yes even the person cleaning the streets and those who live in what many call poor places. However, so many got disillusioned by the bad works of the church recently that many are throwing accusations and making more people feel that being in religion is a futile exercise. I wonder though if people think of the same way too to those who work for companies that literally is killing more people everyday. Almost everyone enjoys smoking cigarettes or drink alcohol for leisure. I wonder if people who don't believe in organized "religion" believe in companies that provide them the happiness they're looking for.

We can always find excuses for things we love but we can't find any excuses to better our lives and live more peacefully. It is not the pastor, the minister, the nun, or the priest that teaches the good things about life. They're mere messengers. A lot of them are bad deliverers of messages and people easily point fingers at them for failing to get it to us - as we like it. Men cannot teach men but can demonstrate what they learned to others. McDonald's didn't pass on to their crew to teach others how to make perfect french fries. It's their manual that tells them how to do it - "perfectly."

Got bad life? Pick up a bible.

". . .If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples." John 8:31

'Anvil Award' is President Arroyo

Check out this website I found at gmanews.tv

The leading tickets vying for the highest post in the land, The Nationalista Party (NP) and The Liberal Party (LP), found Pres. Arroyo as the best way to pull each others ratings down. It's like the president is the biggest negative wish one can give another to spell disaster. No matter how much truth there may be in the news NP broke about Mrs. Arroyos "people" in the LP's line up of local and national candidates' pool, it still does not give any Filipinos the real picture about these two partyies platform of governance. Whoever wins here makes the Filipinos the biggest loser because up until now both parties lack substance.

As for the president, I guess she might as well win the much coveted 'Anvil Award' - not the prestigious one the Advertising society in the Philippines give - for being the biggest personality that can put any party down. Ouch.

Unjust Parking Rules in Mandaluyong

I've seen this kind of parking rule in Daly City, California where I used to live. It's pretty helpful. It allows street sweepers clean the gutters. Those who have cars can pretty much park at the opposite side or other street corners near where they live. There aren't a lot of cars on the streets because houses there have garages. The design is mandated by the city. So no one can put up their homes without a single car garage. The rule also happens once-a-week so you're not burdened without a parking space.

Check this one that popped along the streets of Barangay Highway Hills' Cordillera street and perhaps all the other street corners of the community.

Did the city consult the community about it? What justifies 15 days of no parking on the streets? Were there studies made that could justify this kind of ruling? Will it alleviate the decongestion of the streets? Who benefits from this ruling?

I think this should be questioned by the residents of the community. It's a waste of time and money. We need people who can deliberately think fairly for the good of the community.

Mayoral bet tests positive for drugs

Is Narco-politics playing a role in the upcoming elections? Ernest Domingo Buan, a Liberal Party Mayoral candidate of Mandaluyong City, is just one of the many politicians who are jumping in the Aquino-Roxas ticket to possibly replace the current mayor, Benhur Abalos. We're not to judge him personally but I don't know why our candidates are not being screened at all. Mr. Abalos is a better mayor than his father was but just because the incumbent belongs to the frowned-at Arroyo Administration doesn't mean that we can get anybody but Benhur. Who is Mr. Buan? What makes him a better candidate for the city? What are his classifications? Why did the PDEA catch him red-handed with illegal drugs?
